The Maximum Tournament is a special tournament arranged by the underground arena promoter Mitsunari Tokugawa in order to decide who is the strongest fighter in Japan. Baki Hanma fights his way through the event, facing his half-brother Jack Hanma in the semifinals before ultimately battling Katsumi Orochi in the final.

Lore & Background

The tournament takes place in an underground fighting arena beneath the Tokyo Dome, but the arena itself is a separate underground facility accessed via the Dome, not directly below the stadium. The event allows Baki to hone his skills against lethal opponents before he eventually challenges his father, Yujiro Hanma.

After winning all of his fights in the Maximum Tournament, Baki faces Jack Hammer, who is revealed to be another son of Yujiro and his half-brother.
